E Is For Ebay

I sell on Ebay so it would make sense for me to write about Ebay for the letter E, right? I started selling last summer but didn't open a store until January of this year. It has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. Some weeks I get really good sales and some weeks not so much. Some days I wonder why didn't I do this sooner and some days I wonder why am I doing this at all.

Overall it has been a pretty good experience. My feedback is 100% and as of right now there is only one neutral. I have only got one negative and Ebay removed that. (The buyer threatened to leave negative if I did not partially refund her for an item she felt was not new) I do not like Ebays feedback system. It is a 5 star system in 4 categories: item as described, communication, shipping time and shipping and handling charges. You do not want to get too many 1's or 2's as this can cause you to lose your Top Rated Seller status and possibly your ability to sell on Ebay. Your business is basically in the hands of your buyers and at the mercy of the Ebay giants. Even if you have the worse buyer in the world, you can no longer give them negative feedback. and don't even think about leaving them a false positive (saying something negative about the experience but giving them a positive dot) as Ebay will remove it.

If you are interested in selling on Ebay, there is a great group of sellers willing to help you out and answer your questions. You can find them on proboards here

I have thought about selling some of my art on EBay, but then I get scared because it sounds confusing for me to do. I am not very computer savvy!

Hi Becky! I have had an Ebay Buyer account for a while. Since we live overseas, I don't buy very often anymore. But it does seem like the feedback system has changed since I started. I didn't realize that Sellers were not able to leave negative feedback. That seems to take the checks and balances out of the system. I think Ebay started based on the idea that most Sellers are honest and doing their best to serve and that Buyers will be gracious and respond in kind. I hope you'll have more great days and sales than tough ones.

I have thought about selling on ebay, basically it would be books. too busy right now to even think about it. I've bought some things on ebay, however. interesting that sellers can't leave feedback.
I have a store on etsy where I sell my hand made items. Both buyers and sellers can leave whatever feedback they desire.

Glad you have been able to work with eBay. I know people who've had both good and bad experiences. Personally, I find it too shady... :( ...I can usually find what I want elsewhere...and as for selling items, same thing. Hope it continues to work for you! I think that's awesome.

Best of Luck with your store! Love it when I find a great bargain on there and could probably be selling lots, however, the shipping and postage calculations have me perplexed on how to figure them out. What do you do?

Wishing you luck with your e-bay sales. I use to buy a few vintage item on e-bay. Now, I just have alot and try not to go on and look. If I don't see it, I don't miss it. Not so good for people trying to sale. Probably good for me.

Hello.
The feedback system sounds like it needs some work. All the best with your sales.
Thanks for sharing.

Interesting 'E' post. I use to buy a lot on Ebay but it's been a few years since then. I've thought about selling too but it's a bit scary for me which is why I only bought stuff. It's interesting how much it has changed though. I've been overseas these past few years and never took a look at the new way things work but it's definitely more complicated now than a decade ago!

I sold quite a bit on e-bay last year but then I got too busy.

It is interesting to have such a widespread and virtual market at the touch of a keyboard!

I'm glad it's working for you!

Thanks for an interesting link for the letter "E".

A+
