W Is For Words...

Ryker's words to be exact. I've been a little concerned with Ryker's lack of vocabulary. For the most part, he understands what you tell him such as go get your ball. But he doesn't say much. The doctor said if I still had some concerns, she would refer him to The Birth to Three program. Robbie was involved with this program in S.C. so I am familiar with it. I said I would wait and see how much he is talking when he turns two. This is just my list of words Ryker can say. He says a lot of unrecognizable words but here are the ones I understand:

* mama
* dada
* hi
* bye bye
* get out (usually directed at the dog)
* bob bob (this is spongebob)
* yucky
* no
* done
* my mom
* thank you
* yum
* empty
* doggie
* my jews (my juice)
* eeeeee (eat)
* dirty
* up
* sit (sounds like shit though)

My sister didn't talk until she was three, but she had really bad tonsilitis most of the time- she had them removed at 2 1/2, and that's when she started talking more. Actually, I was the only quick learner in our family as far as talking went, but I ended up the only one with a speech impediment...and it's embarrassing. They, of course, both got speech therapy, and developed quite well (they being my brother and sister, both). I have a feeling you'll do what's best.

Isn't parenting a strange dance. It sounds like he is a thinker : ) rather than a talker. Lots of great words.

I know it's a long time since my lads were so small, but that doesn't sound bad for a not-yet-two year old. They all progress at their own rate. I'm sure you'll make the right decisions though.

We have twin grandchildren, a boy and a girl, and the girl talks a lot more than the boy does. My daughter had an amazing vocabulary at age two, but the boys, not so much. I think boys are just slower to talk.
